FAQ:  Is Nursing a Contraceptive?

Q.  Does nursing acts as a contraceptive, or can a doe get pregnant while she is lactating? 

In our mild Northwest climate, Pygmy does readily breed and conceive when they come into heat about a month after kidding and throughout the lactation period. Does that give birth in May or June generally skip a cycle or two if the weather is very hot in June and July, but non-lactating does also fail to cycle during periods of high environmental temperature.
